10 The Sun, Wednesday, August 3, 2011 Ladies bring home gold at Lincoln County Monster Mud Drags West Valley drivers won 14 trophies at the Total Destruction Racing Team- sponsored Lincoln County Monster Mud Drags last weekend at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. The ladies shined the bright- est, bringing home four first-place tro- phies. Sharon West, of Grand Ronde, won first place in the the 6 Cylinder Stock/4 Cylin- der Modified class on Saturday. She also won the title in the 4 and 6 Cylinder Pow- der Puffclass. West races for Total Destruc- tion. On the second day, Sunday, two other local women raced to first place victories in powder puff classes. Sheridan's Heidi Huffman, of Mud Drag Mafia Racing Team, won the 8 Cylinder Stock class and Maranda Lauer, also of Sheridan, won the 4 and 6 Cylinder class for Total Destruc- tion. The West, which won for the second straight year, was be- hind 6-0 at halftime. In the third quarter, the West's Bryan Sablan (Knappa) intercepted a pass from the East's Jesse Brown (Baker) and ran the ball to the East 4- yard line. Brycen Stutzman (Santiam Christian) then scored off left tackle, and the West led 7-6. Brock Ingrain Kenna Cumberland After an ex- change of punts, Cumberland intercepted a pass from Roger Hults (Illinois Valley) and returned the ball for a 13-6 lead. In the fourth quarter, Jordan Reeher (Crook County) picked offa pass from Brown and took the ball to the East 42. Ingram, three plays later, passed over the middle to Brent Whipple (Elkton) for a 35-yard touchdown play. The East still leads the series 29-27-3. Competition Powwow Aug. 19-21 The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon will host one of the Pacific Noahwest's largest pow- wows over the weekend of Aug. 19-21 when the Competition Powwow returns to Uyxat Powwow Grounds, 9390 Hwy. 22. Hosts drums will be Blackstone, Seekaskootch and Cree Confederation.
