"Kaydi pitched a great game,"
Chewning said.

It was a cold day on the track
at Colton on Thursday, but the
Spartans had a few bright spots.
"Burrrr, it was pretty chilly yes-
terday at Colton and we had quite
a few people missing this meet, but
we did have a few interesting re-
snlts," said Sheridan Coach Barbie
Justen.
Chris Stash, Tabitha Mueller
and Briana Potter earned first
places for the Spartans.
"Chris Stash and Tabitha Mueller
both won the 3,000m run and
Tabitha had a PR to move into sec-
ond place in our dislxict," Jusl said.
Stash won the boy's 3,000m in
9:43.86 and Mueller won the girls'
race in 13:12.47. Mueller also placed
second in the 1,500m (6:13.24).
Potter threw her way to a first
(34-4) in the shot put and third
place (79-8) in the discus.
The Spartans only had eight
boys and 10 girls out, but still man-
aged to pick up 14 top-5 positions
at the Colton Meet.
Laine Davis had the Sheridan
boys' only nmner-up finish in the
400m (58.68). Nathan Simpson had
a pair of third-place finishes in the
800m (2:32.26) and javelin (133-0).

Rachel Hayden had a pair of
top-5 finishes for the Lady Sparts.
She took second in the 200m
(2:56.24) and third in the 1,500m
(6:13.52), just a quarter second be-
hind Mueller.
Kylie Denton and Kaitlin Ray
also had top finishes for Sheridan.
Denton placed third in the long
jump with a leap of 13-11 and Ray
finished the 400m in 1:16.40, good
enough for fourth.
"Dylan Griffith did well in the
discus and javelin after recovering
from a broken hand suffered dur-
ing wrestling season," Justen said.
He placed sixth in the discus
(86-10), eighth (83-9) in the jav-
elin and ninth (30-0) in the shot put.

last week---decisively.
The Bulldogs whipped Gervais 11-

Gervais only 9-8, they were helped
by four Cougar errors. Brady

added a run in the fourth to tie the
score. Tyson Jahn singled, went to

by a pitch and third when Bruckner
reached first on an error, andwas

fielder's choice.
In the seventh, Villalobos and
Bruckner singled, and a single by
Greenhill drove in Vlllalobos. Thomas
Gallagher walked, and an error put
Oakes on first and let Bruckner score.
Nolan Smith brought Greenhill home
with a sacrifice fly.
"Brady got really strong after the
third inning," coach Cliff Toney ob-
served.
Playing Amity, which had won
only one game as of press time, Toney
wanted to give Goodman and
Greenhill some pitching time.
Goodman started and pitched two in-
nings, striking out four. Greenlaill
pitched the remaining three innings
in a game shortened by the 10-run rule
and struck out five.
Eight of the Bulldogs' runs came
in the first inning. V'dlalobos walked,
Bruckner singled, and Goodman hit
a double that scored Villalobos.
Greenhill singled Bruckner home.
Gallagher walked, and the bases were
jammed. Oakes singled to drive in
Goodman and Greenhill. Kenna
Cumberland singled, and Smith
singled to score Gallagher. A single
by Villalobos sent Oakes and
Cumberland across the plate.
Bruckner sent Smith home with a
single.
In the third, Greenhill walked,
went to second on a passed ball and
scored when Gallagher grounded out.
Smith and Jatm singled in the
fourth, and Vtllalobos walked to load
the bases. Brackner singled Smith and
Jahn home. Heidt walked, and the
sacks were loaded again. Greenhill
singled to drive in Villalobos and

Horizon hands Lady Sparts loss
By Clinton Vining
Publisher, The Sun
An eight-run third inning secured an 11-0
win for the Horizon Christian Hawks over
Sheridan's Lady Spartans on Friday.
Sheridan was forced to pitch third-string
Nicole TmjiUo with starters Kylie Denton out
sick and Jaclynn Nichols out with a broken thumb
suffered in a non-league game against Regis.
"Nicole Trujillo stepped up to the mound
and pitched her first game and did great," said
Sheridan Coach Amanda Wofford.
The Lady Spartans fielded the ball cleanly
and got out the first three batters, but couldn't
remain perfect. The girls had three errors in
the second, allowing two runs to score, and
four in the third, allowing eight more nms. The
Hawks tacked on one more run in the fourth.
Sheridan's one hit came in the second inning.
The game ended on a double play that be-
gan when Danielle Anderson caught a fly ball
in centerfield.
''We started strong and ended strong,"
Wofford said, "now we are going to
strengthen the middle."

win

The Spartans went 1-1 last week
against the top and the bottom of the
West Valley League.
They started by losing 12-2 to
league leading Horizon Christian on
Friday there and beating no-win Am-
ity 10-0 on Saturday at home..
For Horizon's Hawks, the win was
their 13th straight. HC is 7-0 in the
West Valley League with a 15-3 over-
all record.
Sheridan's longest streak of the sea-
son was two losses in the middle of
April. Other than that, they've alter-
nated wins and losses.
Before Tuesday's rivalry'game
against Willamina, which happened
after press time, the Spartans were 3-
4 in the WVL with a 6-7 overall
record--slightly below .500. They
were sitting in fourth place behind Ho-
rizon Christian (7-0), Dayton (6-1 ) and
Willamina (4-2).
Friday's game went six innings
before the Hawks won by mercy rule.
''We were down 2-1 going into the
fourth inning before Horizon took ad-
vantage of a couple errors and ended
up scoring six runs in the inning to take
an 8-1 lead," said SHS Coach Todd
Peterson. "They tacked on two more
in the fifth and
two in the sixth
before the 10-run
rule took effect."
Tre Hale-
Edmerson, 2-for-
3, and Henry von
Euen and Brock
Ingram had
Sheridan's only
hits. Hale-
Alex Ludwig Edmerson and
von Euen each
scored a run. Ingram batted one in.
Taylor Grauer pitched five innings,
giving up 11 hits and 10 runs---eight
of them earned. He walked one, struck
out two and hit two batters. Austin
Gomez relieved Grauer and gave up
two hits and two runs while striking
out one and walking two.
Alex Ludwig pitched a five-inning
no hitter against Amity on Saturday,
getting the shutout win. He threw eight
strikeouts and walked just two, not al-
lowing any hits or runs.
"Yes he threw a no hitter!"
Peterson said. "Ludwig was the story
of the day. Not only did he throw a
no hitter, but went 3-3, at the plate,
with one walk, three RBI's, three runs
scored, and two stolen bases. Not too
many guys have days like he did, it
was pretty special."
Grauer, Ingram and Hale-
Edmerson also had hits for the Spar-
tans.
''We didn't necessarily hit the ball
all that well, but were able to take ad-
vantage of their defensive miscues and
walks," Peterson said.
Just about every Spartan in the line-
up scored for Sheridan. Matt
Bushbaum had a pair of runs and
Ethan Byers, Tristan Thompson,
Grauer, Ingrain and Hale-Edmerson
each scored once.
