WHS team finishes 10th

Willamina's varsity
wrestlers placed 10th out
of 13 schools Thursday at
the Freeberry Invitational
in Pendleton. Several
schools were in higher
classifications than Wil-
lamina, including Crook
County(Prineville), which
finished ftrst.
The top Bulldog finishes Branflon Miller "
were second places for Josh Perry at 112 pounds
and Brandon Miller at 130. Coty Brown placed
fourth at 103 and Edwin Vtllalobos sixth at 135.
The Junior Bulldogs placed fifth out of 12
teams, with Christian Pond taking first and
Trevor Hunt second at 135. Jacob Ward placed
second at 160 and Thomas Hawley second at
heavyweight.
"It was a great tournament with some very
tough competition," Bull-
dog coach Ariah Fasana
said. "We didn't fare too
well but got some great
match experience."
Fasana called the meet
"a good little motivator to
see just how much better
we need to get before this
season ends."
"On the positive side,"
Josh Perry he said, "Brandon Miller
did great to take second, as did Josh Perry
Coty Brown got his first taste of tough compe-
tition this season."

A close, aggressively played
game at Scio ended with the
Lady Bulldogs on the short end
of a 61-55 score Dec 28.
Wdlamina was ahead 17-14
after the first quarter and 31-28
at halftime, but the Lady Loggers
outscored their visitors in both the
third and fourth quarters.
The Bulldogs' Brook Wil-
son, however, was the star of
the game. She had 29 points,
nine rebounds and six steals.

Senior Jess!ca Roberts tied
Ellis' effort against Valley with
14 and outscored her teammate
21-14 against the Pioneers.
Ellis led all scorers in the Cas-
cade Christian game with 21.
Roberts scored six.
Against Western Menno-
nite, Jess!ca Roberts shot per-
fect from downtown. She had
three 3-pointers.
Senior Brittany Bradford
had seven blocks in three
games. She also grabbed 18
boards. Kayla Roberts added
16 rebounds.
In the consolation finals,
the Lady Spartans led after
one, but the Challengers man-
aged a six-point advantage by
halfiime.
The Sheridan girls stormed
back and held Cascade Chris-
tian to just three points m the
third and five in the fourth, af-
ter scoring 15 and 18 in the first
two quarters, to win 46-41.
The Lady Spartans began
the West Valley League season
on' Tuesday at home against 5-
5 Horizon Christian after press
time.
Sheridan will host Wil-
lamina at 6 p.m. on Friday.' The
Lady Bulldogs, 5-4, have the
league's best pre-season record,
though they are 0-3 against 3A
schools
