"That's where I discovered my true vo- cation," she said. Both years Holmquist was voted Out- standing Female Musician. She was also given the oppor- tunity to conduct the orchestra at the final concert. Holmquist graduated from Sheridan High School in 1962, valedictorian of the class. She went on to earn a bachelor's de- gree at St. Olaf College in Min- nesota majoring in voice and organ, a masters degree in. mu- sic education from Western Oregon University and a doe- torate in music education and choral conducting from the University of Oregon. She has also studied and taught in En- gland. In addition to leading the Festival Chorale Oregon, Holmquist is director of choral activities at Western Oregon University. She conducts both the concert choir and the cham- ber singers, directs the university's annual musicals and teaches conducting at both the tmdergraduate and graduate levels. As a certi- fied adjudicator, she also serves as a clinician at festi- vals, contests and choral clinics. The concert, an after- noon of Victorian carols, will begin at 3 p.m. on Dec. 13 at the Trinity Lutheran Clittrch, 311 S.E. Schley St., Sheridan. The event is free to the public. Many parade goers pulled up on one of the side streets along Main Street, or into one of the parking lots along the parade route, and stayed in their cars to watch with the heaters on.
