Willamina High's Mykal Stewart travelled to Las Ve- gas this past week to compete in the Cliff Keen World of Wrestling Championships on July 6 and 7 at the Mandalay Bay convention center. He finished sixth in the 165- pound weight class. The tournament was held in conjunction with the UFC fan expo, where every wres- tier received a complimentary admission. Stewart went 2-2, wres- tling opponents from Ari- zona, California and Wash- ington, but he said his most memorable moment was just seeing Las Vegas for the first time. Willamina coach Ariah Fasana was pleased to see Stewart make the trip. "Any extra matches and tournaments just add to his experience," Fasana said. "If he stays on track he could be competing for a state title next year." Stewart placed sixth at the OSAA State Championships this past winter, losing his fi- nal match of the season by fall to teammate Trevor Hunt, who placed one spot ahead of him at fifth.
