12 The Sun, Wednesday, July 3, 1991 Events added to ,,luly 4th fest The logging show is back and gold panning demonstrations, a raf- fle and a sports card show have been added to a full day of activities planned by organizers of W'dla- mina's old-fashioned family Fourth Of July celebration. In addition, teams are signing up to compete in bucket brigade com- petition as part of the annual fire- men's muster sponsored by the WIllamina fire department. Entertainment by country-western dlers and the Haymaker Cloggers round out the schedule, according to chairman Russ Worthington. The logging competition is the first in about five years, Worthington said. Under the direction of Russ Risseeuw, it will feature 12 events and will be held at the competition site near Huddleston Park. Registra- tion opens at 9 a.m. and competition starts at 10 a.m. "We're really glad to have the logging show back," said Worthing- considering this might not go on much longer, we're proud to show them off." Gerald Schwalen will conduct hands-on gold panning demonstra- tions beginning at 10 a.m. rear the fire hall. Interested people can learn techniques, for $1 pan from soil with gold, and have an opportunity to join the Willamette Valley Min- ers' Council, Schwalen said. The day will begin with the Kiwanis Club's all-you-can-eat pan- cake breakfast at Fendall Hall. In addition to hotcakes the menu includes eggs and ham. An 8K fun run from Sheridan, a horseshoe tournament, downhill coaster races, a softball tournament, an ann wres- tling tournament and the bucket brigade and logging competition are all scheduled for the morning hours. A scavenger hunt, hole-in-one golf tournament, kids games, Lions Club barbecue, Barbie's Bingo Barn and the raffle will fill afternoon hours. all will he the Willa- mina museum, craft and food booths, an art show, a dunk link, an Indian fried bread and crafts stand and the sports card show. Coyle will entertain from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Lions chicken barbecue. Old-time fiddlers will appear from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Red Apple Comer Market parking lot, and the Haymaker Cloggers from 4 to 5 p.m. in the same place. The July 4th parade, led by grand marshal Marine Cpi. Kirk Barnett, will roll at 6 p.m., marching through downtown Willamina to the high school. Gold panning demonstrations, 10 a.m. onward between post office and fire hall. Sports card show, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., downtown. Indian fried bread and craft stand, Garden Spa park, from 10 a.m. Lions Club chicken barbecue, with South Main and Barber Streets, noon to dusk. Barbie's Bingo Barn, in the plant and garden outside Red Apple Comer Market, noon to 5 p.m. Scavenger hunt, noon. Starts at the fireworks stand.
