Aragon, chief executive officer. "Our area-wide consumer sur- veys reflected a need for improved facilities, expanded services, addi- tional physicians and more person- alized service," explained Aragon. "In response, we will build a new hospital, expand services and tech- nology, recruit needed physicians and focus on continuous service improvement." The new hospital and medical office complex will be constructed on 25 acres just east of McMinn- ville on Highway 18. Site develop- ment is expected to begin this summer and the entire hospital should be completed by the end of 1995. The new hospital will replace the existing hospital located in McMinnville on South Baker The increasing healthcare needs of area families and related con- sumer survey results were crucial factors in the decision to build the new hospital, according to Aragon. The final decision followed a com- mittment by the hospital's medical staff to actively support and encour- age the recruitment of new needed physicians. "We expect the new hospital will strikingly elevate the availability and accessibility of needed health services and affect the quality of life of families all the way to the coast," said Aragon. Costing an estimated $32 million, the new hospital will be more than twice the size of the existing hospi- tal with 164,150 square feet. It will enhance Yamhiil County's continu- ing economic development, which already boasts a 32.9 percent aver- age growth rate in building permits over the last five years.
