12 The Sun, Wednesday, April 12, 1989 ~i!!i! , d1 r,~ Willamina's Dawn Howard tags out a Sheridan base runner Thursday. In softball Wal in Bull rivalry Fourteen walks hurt Sheridan as the Lady Spartans fell 12-6 to visiting Willamina last Thursday, but the girls high school softball team was a less gracious host to Toledo as Sheri- dan swept a double-header Satur- day, 8-6 and 14-13. "Well. we did a lot better against Toledo," said Sheridan head coach Carol Grauer. Grauer emphasized defense was what pulled her team together to out- last the Lady Boomers Saturday. Meighan Holder earned the ad- miration of her coach for what amounted to outstanding play. "She's one heck of a ball player. She's starting third base and is our leadoff batter. If the rest of the team can keep up with her we'll be doing great this season," Grauer said. In the second game against Tole- do, however, it was an infield hit by Jennifer Simonsen that allowed Chris Ridgeway to score the winning run in the seventh inning. So far the Spartans are 2-2 on the season. "We've been averaging five or six hits per game and that's pretty good HliU -- H.
